Action for Children Sponsored Walk 11 07 2020

Action for Children Sponsored Walk

A sponsored walk had been arranged some time ago by the Circuit Social Issues Working Group, to raise funds for Action for Children.

This cannot now go ahead, but we feel we should do all we can to encourage the Circuit to raise money for Action for Children, especially as the charity is likely to lose out on many fund raising efforts due to the current pandemic.

Due to the current requirements for social distancing two Circuit members from the same household will be doing the walk on Saturday 11th July 2020, on behalf of all of us.

Please support them by going to the Action for Children website and make a donation. On the Donation page select Donation Type as “I am giving on behalf of a church/school” you will then see another box where you can type Colchester Methodist Circuit.

Alternatively speak to someone from your local church who may be able to accept a cheque or cash offering.

Mens Group Zoom Meeting 09 07 2020

A Zoom Men’s Group Meeting has been arranged for

Thursday 9th July 2020 at 7.30pm.

All men within the Colchester Methodist Circuit are invited to join in.

We shall be welcoming two guests to our meeting.

The manager of Colchester Age Concern will talk briefly on their services, and how they might change after the pandemic, especially where men are concerned.

A member of the Mental Health Trust in Clacton will also be present. In the early spring they asked if the Trust could work with us to help isolated men, mainly in the Highwoods area. Now that normal life is returning, it seems a good opportunity to discuss whether and how to pursue this.

For more details please drop an email to John and Tony who will be able to give you the relevant password to join.

God of all hope we call on you today.

Fear of illness, fear for loved ones, fear of other’s reactions to them.
May your Spirit give us a sense of calmness and peace.

We pray for your church in this time of uncertainty.
For those people who are worried about attending worship.
For those needing to make decisions in order to care for others.
For those who will feel more isolated by not being able to attend.
Grant us your wisdom.

Holy God, we remember that you have promised that
Nothing will separate us from your love – demonstrated to us in Jesus Christ.
Help us turn our eyes, hearts and minds to you.

Amen.

A Prayer From the Methodist Church Website:-

Prayer from Pakistan

Humble request to my Lord.

Pray for people who are infected with COVID-19 or facing quarantine.

My Lord Jesus,

We are come to you very humble

During Your ministry on Earth You showed Your love  by healing people of all ages and stations of life from physical, mental, and spiritual ailments.

O, Lord of Mercy,

Be present now to people who need Your loving touch because of COVID-19. They need  Your power of healing through the care and treatment.

Kindly take away all fear, anxiety, and feelings of isolation from people receiving treatment. Protect their families and friends.

Dear Lord, we request for those people who are more likely than others to become severely ill from COVID-19 — the elderly and people with chronic health conditions. Protect them from harm and be their comfort in this time of uncertainty.

Pray for medical professionals, caregivers, researchers, and leaders responsible for decisions about fighting the new coronavirus.

Prayer from Italy

God of grace,
we turn to you in prayer in this difficult time
in which the spread of a pandemic infection has forced our governments
restrictive measures that limit the normal course of life,
they block our sociality and risk making us shut up in our increasingly small sphere, but they are necessary.

God of love,
help us to maintain community bonds and solidarity with our sisters and brothers, especially with those who are in sickness and need,
and help us to be a family for those who are without a family.

God of healing,
we pray for those who have been infected and for their family members,
give them the courage to face this moment of illness;
we pray for all healthcare workers who are spending so much
to manage this epidemic competently and generously,
for scientists who are working hard on a cure in a short time;
give them all strength and vision to face and try to stop this epidemic.

God of mercy,
allow us to live this time as a profitable opportunity to reflect on our experience of faith and on our being part of an easy society prey to fear and discouragement in the face of adversity; help us, despite the difficulties of this situation, to keep us united and open to others, help us not forgetting all the other great tragedies that undermine peace and disrupt the world.

God of salvation,
we pray you to support us in fighting the chains of exploitation and injustice
and help us to maintain chains of solidarity throughout Europe;
please don’t abandon us to the fear of contagion,
but even more to the contagion of fear
for Christ Jesus our brother and savior.
Amen

Rev. Mirella Manocchio
Presidente of OPCEMI (Opera per le Chiese Evangeliche Metodiste in Italia)

A Prayer

Good-news God, when you promised Abraham a son in old age,
Sarah responded to the gospel with laughter;
when you promised Moses that you would deliver your people from slavery,
he responded to the gospel by asking “Who am I?” and “who are you?”;
when you promised Mary a son called Jesus,
she responded to the gospel by saying, “Here I am, the servant of the Lord”;
when you promised the disciples the coming of your Spirit,
they responded to the gospel by waiting in prayer;
when you promised Paul that your grace was sufficient,
he responded to the gospel by finding contentment in weakness and hardship.
Good-news God, make me laugh, make me wonder,
make me submit, make me wait, make me content.
Give me new life, give me identity, give me Jesus, give me Spirit, give me grace.

Amen.
