Circuit Notices
Week Commencing
Sunday 30 May 2021

Throughout this latest Lockdown, the Government has not banned churches from opening for Worship, and with the easing of some lockdown restrictions our churches are beginning to think about in person Worship again.

Re-opening Churches for Worship

A Circuit Plan is currently being drafted for the coming months. This will include online and in-person services at our churches, and will be made available on our Downloads page.

We have dates when several Circuit churches are hoping to reopen for in person worship:-

Wimpole Road and Mersea opened for in-person worship on 18 04 2021

Castle opened on Pentecost Sunday/Aldersgate Sunday 23 05 2021

The Ark will open on 27 06 2021

The Well will open on 04 07 2021

Wivenhoe, Lexden and Tollgate have yet to confirm when they intend to reopen, but it is likely to be 27 06 2021 or 04 07 2021.

All dates above are assuming the Government Roadmap out of Covid Restrictions is followed as anticipated.

We will continue to upload content to YouTube every Sunday until all of our churches have resumed in-person worship. We will then review what online activities should continue, and your comments would be welcome.

We had our first experiment with Live-Streaming the 10:30am Pentecost Sunday Service from Castle. It is now available on Castle’s YouTube Channel here, or you can access the service directly here. To join future services live from home, please Subscribe to that channel (and click the Notification Bell icon) to be notified when this service is about to go live. The next one will be 06 06 2021.

Taking Stock is now back, with a new video on YouTube every week – usually on Wednesdays.

We now have Zoom evening services for the whole Circuit on most Sunday evenings, hosted by various Churches. Your local email Hub Co-ordinator will send you an email with a link to join these. (If you haven’t received an email please contact one of your church stewards).

Your local Methodist Church website will give more details about groups and activities which are taking place there – click on that Church in the Menu on the Circuit Website.

Please continue to remember all of our Circuit Ministers and Lay Preachers in your prayers.

Rev Ken Chalmers is still not back to full time working. Rev Joe Adams remains unwell, and unable to carry out his usual duties for several weeks. Any pastoral concerns should be directed to our Superintendent Rev Alan Jenkins by email or telephone. Please pray for Joe, but do not contact him at this time.

Remember in your prayers folk from across the circuit who are suffering from various health problems at this time, any members and friends who have recently tested positive for Covid-19, and those known to us who are NHS or other keyworkers.

From the Methodist Church Website:-

Prayer from Italy

God of grace,
we turn to you in prayer in this difficult time
in which the spread of a pandemic infection has forced our governments
restrictive measures that limit the normal course of life,
they block our sociality and risk making us shut up in our increasingly small sphere, but they are necessary.

God of love,
help us to maintain community bonds and solidarity with our sisters and brothers, especially with those who are in sickness and need,
and help us to be a family for those who are without a family.

God of healing,
we pray for those who have been infected and for their family members,
give them the courage to face this moment of illness;
we pray for all healthcare workers who are spending so much
to manage this epidemic competently and generously,
for scientists who are working hard on a cure in a short time;
give them all strength and vision to face and try to stop this epidemic.

God of mercy,
allow us to live this time as a profitable opportunity to reflect on our experience of faith and on our being part of an easy society prey to fear and discouragement in the face of adversity; help us, despite the difficulties of this situation, to keep us united and open to others, help us not forgetting all the other great tragedies that undermine peace and disrupt the world.

God of salvation,
we pray you to support us in fighting the chains of exploitation and injustice
and help us to maintain chains of solidarity throughout Europe;
please don’t abandon us to the fear of contagion,
but even more to the contagion of fear
for Christ Jesus our brother and savior.
Amen

Rev. Mirella Manocchio
Presidente of OPCEMI (Opera per le Chiese Evangeliche Metodiste in Italia)

A reminder from our Church Treasurers

While our buildings remain closed for all activities, there are still regular bills to be paid. Perhaps online banking, or contributing by cheque or standing order? Your local Church Treasurer would love to hear from you about this.
