About Us

Welcome to Colchester Methodist Circuit

Colchester Methodist Circuit consists of seven churches spread across the City of Colchester. Although in different parts of the City and with different challenges and opportunities, these churches work together to bring the good news of Jesus Christ to the people of Colchester and the surrounding area. You can find out more about our churches and the work of the Circuit by looking at the other areas of this website. If you want to know more about Our People or What We Believe please follow the links. Our Superintendent Minister writes a regular Pastoral Letter to the Circuit which you might also like to read.

Each Methodist Circuit is part of a District. The Colchester Circuit is part of the Bedfordshire, Essex and Hertfordshire District. You can find out more about our District on their website. Please note this will open in a new tab on your browser.

The Colchester Methodist Circuit is part of the nationwide Methodist Church. You can find out more about the wider church by accessing their website here. Please note this will open in a new tab on your browser.

The calling of the Methodist Church is to respond to the gospel of God’s love in Christ and to live out its discipleship in worship and mission. In response to this gift, there are twelve things we do individually and together as we grow as followers of Jesus. You can find out more by accessing the Methodist Way of Life webpages. Our History

The founder of Methodism, John Wesley, came to Colchester several times between 1758 and 1790 preaching to people in the open air. Church buildings or Meeting Places of the Methodist Society began to exist and Circuits were created from groups of these. One of our churches stands on the site of John Wesley’s original Chapel in Colchester.

More information is available on the the main Methodist history site. Please note this will open in a new tab on your browser.
